What is the Masama Project?
Masama is a unique coal asset that represents a low cost regional opportunity for Minergy.
The Masama Project covers -120km2 (within a greater Prospecting Licence) and is located in Botswana, a country consistently ranked amongst the best mining destinations globally and the top destination in Africa. The country has a well-established project approval and permitting process which is efficient and inexpensive. Masama is ideally situated in a low population density, and low land use intensity area, and has significant stakeholder support.
The Masama Project is 50km north of Gaborone, in the south western corner of Botswana’s Mmamabula coalfield and can be mined at low cost and low risk, with good infrastructure into regional markets. The resource is close to existing rail, road and water infrastructure, and has significant distance advantages over existing suppliers to regional customers.
The quantum of the resource provides significant scope to increase coal production to underpin expansions of power generation designed to meet additional electricity demand within the SAPP.
